ABOUT OUR FOUNDER

Community Change Agent

Champion of Change for Families and Youth

Hi, I'm Shakema

From a young age, Shakema Glover’s heartbeat to the rhythm of service and advocacy. Born and raised in a community where compassion was currency, Ms. Glover found her calling early on, igniting a flame that would burn brightly for over three decades.

Her journey into the world of service began in her high school years, where she eagerly volunteered at local hospitals and organizations like the American Red Cross. There, she learned the true meaning of empathy and resilience as she lent a helping hand to those in need, spreading hope and cheer in the darkest of times.

Driven by her passion for helping others, Ms. Glover pursued a career in healthcare, navigating through various roles from maternity care to hospice services. Her dedication and commitment led her to become educated as a Certified Nurse Assistant, Certified Peer Specialist, Practical Nurse (LPN), and eventually a Registered Nurse (RN). With each step, she honed her skills and deepened her understanding of the human experience, touching countless lives along the way.

Yet, Ms. Glover’s journey didn’t stop within the confines of hospital walls. Armed with a diverse skill set and an unwavering determination to make a difference, she transitioned into the realm of advocacy. Drawing upon her administrative skills and powerful voice, she became a beacon of hope for the less fortunate, advocating tirelessly on their behalf.

In her pursuit of systemic change, Ms. Glover founded Advocacy Activists, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering families and youth within the child welfare systems. Over the past years, her advocacy efforts have sparked tangible transformation, fostering transparency and accountability between systems, families, and organizations.

Among her many achievements, Ms. Glover has been instrumental in championing the need for legal representation for children in court proceedings and addressing the alarming issue of youth homelessness stemming from aging out of foster care. Through her tireless advocacy, she has helped countless families and youth reclaim their voices, rights, and dignity, guiding them toward a path of sustainability and self-empowerment beyond the confines of the system.

Shakema Glover’s story is one of resilience, compassion, and unwavering dedication to the betterment of society’s most vulnerable. As a true advocate for change, she continues to inspire and uplift those around her, leaving an indelible mark on the world – one act of kindness at a time.
